Analysis on the Causes of ABO Discrepancy

Abstract
|
|
|
A discrepancy between red blood cell and serum grouping was observed in 7 cases,
while we were performing about ten thousand ABO grouping tests in Chung-Ang
University Hospitals for about one year. The causes of ABO discrepancy were analysed
and the results were as follows:
1. ABO discrepancy was caused by A or B subgroup in 2 cases. The subgroup of the
one was considered as A3 and that of the other was A weaks B.
2. In five cases, the discrepancy was caused by IgM antibodies except anti-A or
Anti-B. Among them, three cases have cold alloantibodies and two cases have cold
autoantibodies in their sera. The specificities were confirmed in only 2 cases with cold
alloantibodies, which were anti-M and anti-P1 separately.
